The performer draws attention to an ornate wooden box from the turn of the 19th century — an apothecary case said to have belonged to Dr. Ichabod C. Smith & Co., chemist and alleged murderer. Within it lies a story that has waited over a century to be told.

The lid opens to reveal several objects of interest:
a faded newspaper clipping, a portrait of a man named Martin Pierce (the prime suspect), and six corked bottles labeled simply “Poison: Sample 1–6.”

At first glance, Pierce seems kindly — even dignified.
But on closer inspection, there’s something unsettling in his eyes.

The performer invites a participant to “Pick your poison.”
One bottle is freely chosen and set aside.
The upper tier of the box lifts away to reveal six antique photographs — the victims, preserved behind glass.
The participant selects one: the person they feel met their end from the chosen poison.

Finally, a small drawer slides open, revealing a folded, age-stained paper secured with an antique bulldog clip. The box is set aside, and the chosen items are examined.

The bottle is uncorked. Inside, a rolled parchment names the toxin: Aconite — Wolfsbane.
The back of the chosen photograph bears a name: Michael Stanton.
When the clip is removed and the paper unfolded, the chilling revelation is read aloud:

“Michael Stanton — poisoned with Aconite.”
